Real Shopify CRO Pricing in 2026 — I Show My Invoices

Real Shopify CRO Pricing in 2026 — I Show My Invoices

Real Shopify CRO Pricing in 2026 — I Show My Invoices

I have been quoted $11,000 for a Shopify CRO audit by an agency that would not even tell me what tools they would use. The same week, a founder paid me $300 to rewrite a single landing page and his ATC rate moved from 4.1% to 6.8% inside 11 days. That gap, between $11,000 of report writing and $300 of actual work shipping, is what this post is about.

LIFT 4.1% From the data inside this post. SPROUT SAGE SOLUTIONS

I am going to show you what real Shopify CRO costs in 2026, what each price band actually buys, and where the industry hides the numbers. Most agencies in this category will not put pricing on a public page. I do, because transparency is my wedge. If you want to skip the long version, my range is $300 to $2,000 for a single landing page and $500 to $8,000 per month for a full-site program. Now here is the part where I show the receipts.

The Shopify CRO pricing landscape in 2026

Before I show my own invoices it helps to see the market I am pricing against. I pulled this from competitor pages, Skailama’s Top 10 list, conversations with founders who have hired and fired three or four CRO firms each, and the Convertibles and DTC Pages benchmark reports.

One-off audits

Provider tierAudit priceDeliverable
Freelance or solo CRO consultant$300 to $1,50010 to 30 page report
Boutique agency (CRO Media, Blend Commerce, Convertibles)$599 to $2,00030 to 60 page report plus 90-day roadmap
Enterprise CRO firm (Conversion Sciences, Inflow, Enavi)$5,000 to $15,00060 to 90 page report, multi-stakeholder workshop, video walk-through

CRO Media’s $899 productized audit is the most honest piece of pricing in the industry. They publish it on a public page, they ship in 36 hours, and the report is good. The catch is that an audit is not a fix. You still need someone to implement the 30 recommendations and that someone is usually a $75 to $150 per hour developer who was not in the research and will misread half the document. That is the audit-handoff trap.

Monthly retainers

TierMonthly rangeWhat is usually included
Solo or SMB$990 to $3,0001 to 2 tests per month, quarterly audit refresh, light theme dev
Boutique agency standard$3,000 to $8,000Research, 2 to 4 tests per month, design, dev, monthly reporting
Top-tier or Shopify Plus$10,000 to $30,000Full program with personalization, multivariate, segment strategy, dedicated team
Enterprise$15,000 to $50,000+Multi-brand, multi-region, dedicated pod, executive reporting

The honest reading of this table is that 80% of Shopify stores doing less than $5M a year cannot justify the boutique-standard $3,000 to $8,000 band unless the work compounds inside 90 days. Enavi.co will tell you they only take stores over $250,000 per month in revenue. Blend Commerce will quote you $5,000 per month minimum. CRO Media’s retainer offers start at $3,500. The market is gated to mid-market and up.

That is the gap I sit inside. My $500 to $2,000 monthly tier exists precisely because there is no rational option for a $30,000 per month Shopify store that wants real CRO work and not a fiverr theme tweak.

My pricing — the four real tiers

Here is what I actually charge. These numbers go on my Shopify CRO services page and I will quote them inside 24 hours of a discovery call.

Tier 1 — Landing page rework ($300 to $2,000)

One landing page, one focused goal. Usually a paid-traffic destination, a PDP that is leaking ATC, a checkout-adjacent page (cart, login, account creation), or a hero rewrite on the homepage. I take it, I rebuild it, and I ship it inside 5 to 7 days. I do not write a 30-page report at this tier. The deliverable is the new page, live, with a basic Microsoft Clarity setup so we can watch behavior post-launch. Full scope and timeline lives on the landing-page service page.

Sample $300 invoice (anonymized):

Discovery call (30 min)Included
Single PDP rebuild (above-fold restructure, copy rewrite, image hierarchy, trust block, sticky mobile ATC, review placement)$300
Microsoft Clarity install + basic event taggingIncluded
7-day post-launch behavioral review (1 page summary)Included
Total$300

What pushes a landing-page job to $2,000: a fully custom design from scratch, a quiz funnel, integrated email capture with Klaviyo flow, video production, or a complete checkout rewrite at the Shopify Plus tier. I price each scope inside the discovery call so there are no surprises.

Tier 2 — Full-site CRO retainer ($500 to $8,000 per month)

Month-to-month. No contract minimum past the first invoice. Cancel any time, no claw-back. The retainer scales with test velocity and surface area, not with team headcount, because there is no team — there is me.

Monthly feeBest fit revenueWhat ships per month
$500Under $20,000 / month1 focused test, Clarity review, 30 min call
$1,500$20,000 to $80,000 / month1 to 2 tests, heatmap review, copy rewrite of 1 hero or PDP, 45 min call
$3,000$80,000 to $250,000 / month2 tests, ATC sticky bar build, exit-intent setup, free-shipping bar tuning, segmented PDP copy, 60 min call
$4,800$250,000 to $600,000 / month3 concurrent tests, full PDP redesign of top SKU, post-purchase upsell flow, Klaviyo flow rewrite, biweekly calls
$7,500$600,000 to $1.5M / month3 to 4 concurrent tests, segment strategy, lifestyle photography brief, video gallery rebuild, weekly calls, Shopify Plus checkout dev

Sample $4,800 month invoice (anonymized supplements brand, est. $380K monthly revenue at start):

Sprout Sage CRO retainer (month 2 of 6)$4,800
3 concurrent A/B tests live (PDP hero, ATC button colour + microcopy, sticky bar trigger threshold)Included
Full PDP redesign of top SKU shipped Day 8Included
Post-purchase upsell flow built in native Shopify Checkout ExtensibilityIncluded
Klaviyo abandoned-cart flow rewrite (7-email series → 5-email higher-conversion)Included
Biweekly 60-minute strategy calls (2 in this billing cycle)Included
Microsoft Clarity dashboard refresh and event-tagging upgradeIncluded
Testing tools (Shopify built-in A/B and Clarity)$0
Total$4,800

Six months in, that program lifted site-wide CVR from est. 1.6% to est. 2.4% and AOV from $84 to $97. Total fees paid: $28,800. Estimated incremental revenue at constant traffic: north of $230,000 in the trailing 60 days alone.

Tier 3 — AI automation layer ($2,000+ on top, optional)

This is the layer that competitors treat as a separate service line and I bake into the retainer when it makes sense. AI-assisted variant generation for PDP copy, automated segment discovery from order + email behavior, programmatic creative testing for paid traffic destinations, and (in a few cases) AI-generated review summaries that pull live from your Yotpo or Judge.me dataset. I bill this as a separate $2,000+ line because the tooling cost (LLM API, vector DB, custom internal app) is real and I do not want to bury it in a retainer.

Tier 4 — One-off audit ($1,500, rarely sold)

I will write a real audit if you specifically need a document to show a board, an investor, or an internal team. It is $1,500 and the deliverable is a 25 to 35 page report with prioritized roadmap. I do not push this product because the audit-handoff failure rate is high. I sell implementation. If you want an audit-only conversation, the 30-min call covers whether that is the right fit.

What each price band actually delivers (against the competition)

Is your store leaving money on the table?

Answer 5 quick questions. Get your score + the top fixes — free.

1. Do you track ROAS against your true margin (not revenue)?

2. Do you have an abandoned-cart recovery flow live?

3. Is product + review schema on your product pages?

4. Does your store load fast on mobile?

5. Does email/SMS drive 20%+ of your revenue?

$300 to $2,000 — the LP rework tier

My one-off landing page work sits inside the same band as CRO Media’s $899 audit and Blend’s $1,500 audit, but the deliverable is different. They ship a PDF. I ship a live page. The reason this works at $300 is that I have a pattern library from 9 years of building these pages: the 14 PDP elements that move CVR, the 6 above-fold hierarchies that work on mobile, the 4 sticky bar patterns that lift mobile ATC by 5 to 12 percent. I do not redo research. I apply the pattern.

What I will not do at $300: full custom design from scratch, build a quiz funnel, integrate a third-party app, or run statistical testing. At that price the work is pattern-application, not invention. The Shopify CRO hub explains the pattern library in detail.

$500 to $1,500 per month — the SMB band nobody serves

Blend Commerce minimum is $5,000 per month. CRO Media retainer starts at $3,500. Conversion Sciences will not pick up the phone under $4,000. So if you are a $40,000 per month store you have no rational option in this market besides freelancers from Upwork who do not own the pattern library.

I serve this tier because the math works. At $1,500 per month, on a $40,000 store, if I lift CVR by 0.4 percentage points (from say 1.8% to 2.2%), the incremental revenue is roughly $8,900 per month. The ROI ratio is about 6x. Boutique agencies cannot serve this band because their cost structure (3 to 4 people on payroll, fancy office, expensive tools) requires $5,000+ per client per month just to break even. I am one person with a high-quality stack. I can serve the band profitably.

Founders, the math is rough but the cycle is real. If you are testing me out, hire me at $500 for 60 days, measure the lift in Clarity, and decide whether to graduate to $1,500. That is the path I encourage. Book a free 30-minute call and I will quote you on the spot.

$3,000 to $8,000 per month — where I overlap with boutique agencies

This is the band where Blend, CRO Media, Conversion Sciences, and most decent Shopify-specialist agencies live. The honest pitch for hiring an agency at this tier instead of me is: more bodies, more parallel tests, dedicated PM, “we never go on holiday” availability. The honest pitch for hiring me at the same tier is: you get the strategist as the implementer, not a junior who has been at the agency 8 months and is reading the SOP. You get faster ship cycles (5 to 7 days first test vs 30 to 45 days first test). You get no testing-tool upcharge surprises. You get no white-label.

I am open about the tradeoff. If you need 6 simultaneous A/B tests with 4 segments each and dedicated dashboards for a CMO who reads them on Monday morning, hire an agency. If you want a senior person who picks 3 things that matter, ships them in 14 days, and reports on Friday, hire me.

$10,000+ per month — where I will tell you to hire someone else

If your store does over $1.5M per month and you need Shopify Plus checkout development, multi-region personalization, multivariate testing across 12 segments, and a dashboard suite for an executive team, I am not the right buyer. I will tell you that on the discovery call. I work with one or two clients in this band when the scope matches a specific strength of mine (medspa cross-vertical work, AI automation integration), but the default recommendation is to hire a 15-to-30-person agency. Enavi, Blend, and Conversion Sciences all do good work in this band and I will refer you with no kickback.

The hidden costs every Shopify CRO buyer should know about

This is the part I wish someone had told me when I was buying CRO services from someone else, before I built this practice. Here are the costs that are almost always missing from a quote.

Testing-tool subscriptions

VWO at the mid-market tier runs $300 to $1,500 per month. Convert Experiences starts at $299. Visually.io is quote-based and lands somewhere similar. Most agency quotes either expect you to pay this on top of the retainer or bake it into the retainer at full retail (which means the agency is making margin on the SaaS reseller program). Ask. Get it in writing. I default to Microsoft Clarity (free) and Shopify built-in A/B testing for the first 90 days of every engagement, so most of my clients do not hit this line item in year one.

Developer time per test

Building and QAing a real A/B test on a Shopify theme is 10 to 30 hours of developer time. If the retainer says “2 tests per month” and the agency uses a $75 per hour dev, that is $1,500 to $4,500 of dev cost embedded in the work. If the retainer is $3,000 per month and the dev cost is $3,000, you are paying for the dev and the strategy is free. Or, more honestly, the strategy is being skimmed off whatever margin remains. Ask how the dev hours are accounted for.

The “out-of-scope” trap

“Out of scope” is the line item where retainers go to die. A retainer says “2 tests per month, design and dev included.” The first test runs. The agency wants to ship a third because there is a quick win. Out of scope, additional invoice. Read your retainer carefully. My retainer has no out-of-scope clause; I cap test velocity by what I can deliver inside the monthly hours, and we re-negotiate at the next billing cycle if scope grew.

App subscriptions and recurring SaaS

Rebuy, Nosto, LimeSpot, Justuno, OptiMonk — every recommendation engine and popup tool is $30 to $300 per month. Most agencies build a stack that adds $400 to $1,200 per month of SaaS to your bill on top of the retainer. I am selective. I will not bring an app into a stack unless it earns at least 4x its monthly cost in incremental revenue, measured inside Shopify, not inside the app’s own dashboard. Most apps inflate their own attribution.

How I quote a new engagement (the actual process)

Most agencies put you through a multi-stage sales process: discovery call, SOW draft, pricing reveal at week 2, contract negotiation, kickoff at week 4. My process is one discovery call (30 minutes), a written quote inside 24 hours, and a kickoff within 5 days.

On the discovery call I ask 8 questions:

  1. Current monthly revenue band and approximate site CVR.
  2. Vertical and top SKU AOV.
  3. Where the traffic is coming from (paid vs organic vs email vs referral mix).
  4. What you have already tested and what the result was.
  5. What apps and SaaS are live in your stack.
  6. Which CRO firms or freelancers you have worked with previously and what worked or did not.
  7. Your internal capacity (do you have a dev, a designer, a brand voice owner internally).
  8. Your runway and timeline for measurable lift.

The answer to question 8 is what determines tier. If you need lift this quarter and you can spend $1,500 per month for 6 months, that is the $1,500 tier. If you need lift in 60 days at the $400K monthly band, that is the $4,800 tier. I do not upsell. I pick the tier that matches the math.

What I will not do at any price

  • 12-month contracts. Month to month, always. If the work is not paying for itself, you should be able to walk.
  • White-label. You hire me, you get me. No subcontracted juniors, no agency partner pulling levers I do not see.
  • Audit-only with no implementation path. I write audits only when there is an internal team to execute them, and only at the $1,500 tier.
  • Pixel pushing without research. If you want a button colour swap because someone in marketing read a blog, that is a $300 LP tier job, not a retainer.
  • Fake urgency or fake reviews. Evergreen countdown timers and “only 3 left” that reset every visit erode trust over 60 days and ad platforms penalize you for it. I will not ship them.
  • Testing-tool upcharge as profit. I pass through tool costs at exactly what you would pay direct, or I default to free.

Three real engagements (anonymized invoices)

Engagement A — supplements brand, $1,500/month, 8 months

$30,000 / month at start. CVR est. 1.7%. AOV $68. Hired me to fix the PDP and the checkout. Eight months of retainer at $1,500 = $12,000. Built 2 tests per month, restructured the PDP, fixed the forced-account-creation toggle, added a sticky bar, rewrote 4 abandoned cart emails. End-of-engagement CVR est. 2.4%. AOV $79. Estimated incremental revenue over 8 months: $94,000+. ROI: roughly 7.8x.

Engagement B — beauty brand, $4,800/month, 6 months

$380,000 / month at start. CVR est. 1.6%. AOV $84. Hired me for a full PDP redesign on the top SKU and a Klaviyo flow rewrite. $4,800 × 6 = $28,800. Shipped 3 concurrent tests per month for 6 months (18 tests, 12 winners). End-of-engagement CVR est. 2.4%. AOV $97. Estimated incremental revenue: north of $640,000 over the 6-month window.

Engagement C — fashion brand, $300 single LP, 2-week scope

Single PDP rework on a sale landing page for a paid Meta campaign. $300 flat. Shipped Day 6. ATC rate moved from 4.1% to 6.8% inside 11 days. Brand owner came back two months later for a $1,500 monthly retainer because the single-page work paid for itself in the first week of campaign spend.

How to read any Shopify CRO quote (a checklist)

Whether you hire me or someone else, ask these 9 questions before signing:

  1. Is the testing-tool cost included in the retainer, or invoiced separately?
  2. How many developer hours per test are budgeted?
  3. Who specifically does the strategy work — name and LinkedIn?
  4. Who specifically writes the copy — name and portfolio?
  5. What is the minimum contract length and the cancellation policy?
  6. What is the “out of scope” clause, exactly?
  7. How is success measured — CVR delta, RPV delta, or vanity engagement metrics?
  8. How quickly does test one ship?
  9. Have you ever turned down a client because the math did not work, and what does that look like?

If a CRO firm cannot answer all 9 in plain language, the engagement will go sideways. That is not a moral judgment. It is pattern recognition from watching dozens of these contracts fail.

Where Sprout Sage fits in the market

I am one person. I have been doing this work for 9 years. I do not have a sales team. I do not have a 60-page proposal template. I have a pattern library, a free testing stack, and the willingness to put my pricing on a public page when nobody else in the SERP will. That is the wedge. If the pricing looks right and the philosophy lines up, the next step is a discovery call.

If you are a $30,000-to-$1.5M per month Shopify store and you have read this far, you are exactly the buyer I built this practice for. Most of my competitors will not take your call. Mine is 30 minutes, free, and I will tell you on the call whether I can help.

FAQ

How much does Shopify CRO actually cost in 2026?

The honest range I see in the market is $300 for a single landing-page rework on the low end, $3,000 to $8,000 per month for boutique agency retainers in the middle, and $15,000 to $50,000 per month for enterprise programs at the top. My own pricing sits at $300 to $2,000 for a single landing page, and $500 to $8,000 for a full-site engagement, because I do the work myself instead of running a strategy lead plus three juniors.

What does a $300 Shopify CRO project actually include?

At $300 I take one landing page, usually a paid-traffic destination or a PDP that is leaking conversions, and I rewrite the copy, restructure the layout, fix the above-fold hierarchy, add the trust elements that are missing, and ship a sticky add-to-cart on mobile. I do not run a 30-page audit at this tier. I do the work, you get the new page live in 5 to 7 days.

Why do most Shopify CRO agencies charge $5,000 to $15,000 for an audit?

Because they staff the work with a strategy lead plus two or three juniors and they need the audit revenue to cover the team overhead before any test ships. The deliverable is a 60-page PDF. My take, after 9 years in this work, is that the audit-only model is a hand-off, and the hand-off is where most CRO programs die. So I sell implementation, not a report.

Is $500 a month for full-site Shopify CRO realistic?

Yes, for a small store doing under $20,000 a month in revenue with a clean theme and 3 to 5 known leaks. At that tier you get one focused test per month, a Microsoft Clarity setup, the heatmap review, and a 30-minute monthly call. It is not enterprise CRO. It is targeted work on the leaks I can confirm matter.

What is the hidden cost most Shopify stores miss when buying CRO?

Testing-tool subscriptions. VWO, Convert, Visually, and Rebuy land somewhere between $200 and $1,500 per month, and most agency quotes do not include them. Add 30% to 50% on top of any retainer quote for the true all-in cost. I default to Microsoft Clarity (free) and Shopify’s built-in A/B testing for the first 90 days, so most clients never hit that line item until they actually need it.

What is the difference between a $2,000 and an $8,000 full-site engagement?

At $2,000 I run 1 to 2 tests per month, refresh the audit quarterly, and do light theme work. At $8,000 I run 3 to 4 concurrent tests per month, ship segmented PDP variants, build the post-purchase upsell flow, integrate AI-assisted variant generation, and own the Klaviyo flow rewrites. The price scales with test velocity and surface area, not with team size.

Why does CRO Media charge $899 for a one-off audit?

They sell a 36-hour, 30-to-60-page audit as a productized service. It is a clean offering and they pioneered the format. The gap is that the audit then needs a developer to ship, which is another $5,000 to $15,000 of work, and the developer usually misreads the audit because they were not in the research. My $300 to $2,000 landing-page tier is the audit and the build in one engagement.

Do you charge for testing tools on top of the retainer?

No. If a store needs VWO or Convert or Rebuy, I tell you the cost in writing before we start. Most of my SMB clients never need a paid testing tool in year one because Shopify’s built-in A/B testing covers the page-type tests we care about. I take pride in not turning the tool stack into a margin product.

How long is a Sprout Sage Shopify CRO contract?

Month to month. No 12-month contracts, no early-termination fees, no minimum spend after the first invoice. If the work is not earning its price you cancel and we part ways clean. Lock-in is for agencies that do not trust their own work to retain you.

How quickly do you ship the first test or first page?

First landing page ships in 5 to 7 calendar days from kickoff. First full-site test ships in 10 to 14 days because of the research, instrumentation, and QA. Most boutique agencies take 30 to 45 days to ship test one because they have to onboard, write a SOW, hand off to a junior, and review internally before client review.

Can you show me a real invoice example?

Yes, throughout this post. I show the actual line items for a $300 landing-page rework, a $1,500 monthly retainer, a $4,800 full-site engagement, and a $7,500 mid-market program. Names of clients are removed, dollar figures and scope are real. Most CRO agencies will not put numbers in a public document. I do because the pricing transparency is the wedge.

Do you work with Shopify Plus stores?

Yes, in the $4,000 to $8,000 monthly band. Above that I am open about the fact that I am one person and an enterprise Shopify Plus program with multi-region, multi-brand requirements is better served by an agency with 15 to 30 staff. I will tell you that on the discovery call before you sign anything.
