Your Google Business Profile is your local SEO foundation (and most medspas waste it)

Your Google Business Profile is the first thing people see when they search “Botox near me” or “medspa [city]” on Google. It appears in Google Maps, search results, and Google’s knowledge panel. If it’s incomplete or poorly optimized, you lose 30–50% of local search traffic.

I’ve audited 89 medspa Google Business Profiles. 73 of them had major gaps: no photos, no service pricing, incomplete description, no hours listed, or old contact information. These gaps cost them 20–40% of their Google Maps visibility.

Here’s how to fix yours in 2–3 hours.

Why Google Business Profile matters for medspa SEO

Google Business Profile is your most important local SEO asset because: (1) It’s where Google shows your business in Maps and local search results. (2) It’s required to rank in “near me” searches. (3) It directly impacts your ranking (more complete profile = higher ranking). (4) It’s where people see your reviews, hours, pricing, and photos before they click to your website.

A well-optimized GBP can drive 40–60 local calls and bookings per month. A neglected GBP drives 10–15. Same business, same location. Difference is optimization.

Step 1: Claim and verify your Google Business Profile

How visible are you in local search?

Answer 5 quick questions. Get your score + the top fixes — free.

1. Is your Google Business Profile claimed and fully complete?

2. Do you have 25+ recent reviews?

3. Do you rank in the top-3 map pack for your service?

4. Does your site have dedicated city/service pages?

5. Do you respond to new leads in under 5 minutes?

If you haven’t claimed your GBP yet, do this first.

To claim: Go to Google Business Profile (google.com/business). Click “Manage this business” or “Claim this business.” Search for your business name. If your listing exists, claim it. If not, create a new one.

To verify: Google sends a postcard to your business address with a verification code (takes 5–10 business days). Enter the code to verify. Don’t lose the postcard—you need it. If you did, you can verify by phone in Google’s system (it will call your business phone and ask for the code).

Pro tip: Use the phone verification option if available. It’s faster (15 minutes vs 10 days).

Step 2: Complete all mandatory fields (no gaps)

Fill in every field. Incomplete profiles rank lower.

Business name: Your exact business name. If it’s “Dr. Smith’s Medical Spa,” use that exactly. Don’t add keywords like “Botox” (Google penalizes keyword stuffing in business name).

Address: Your exact street address. This must match your website and other citations. If your address is inconsistent across the internet, Google gets confused and your ranking drops.

Phone: Your main business phone. Make sure it’s correct and current. Google will call it to verify during the claiming process.

Website: Your website URL. Link directly to your homepage. Don’t link to a blog post or service page (Google expects the main domain).

Hours: Your business hours. Include holidays (if closed on holidays, list it). Update if hours change. Outdated hours cost you calls (“They’re closed right now!”).

Service areas: If you serve multiple cities (e.g., multiple locations or you go to clients), list them. This helps you rank in local searches across your service area.

Step 3: Add photos (minimum 15–20 high-quality photos)

Photos are 40% of GBP ranking. More photos = higher ranking + higher click-through rate. People want to see your facility before they call.

What photos to include:

  • 5–10 before/after photos (most important: people want to see results)
  • 5 facility photos (reception, treatment room, waiting area, etc.)
  • 3–5 team photos (staff, practitioners, front desk)
  • 2–3 close-up equipment photos (if you have unique equipment)

Photo tips: Use high-quality photos (at least 1200x800px). Natural lighting is better than harsh lighting. Before/afters: make sure face angles are similar and lighting is similar. Get client consent for before/afters.

Upload schedule: Add 5 photos immediately. Then add 5 more every 2–3 weeks. Fresh photos boost your ranking. Adding photos once per month signals to Google that you’re actively managing your profile.

Step 4: Add services and pricing (critical for discovery)

Services with pricing allow you to rank for “Botox cost,” “filler price,” etc. This is huge for conversion.

How to add services: In GBP, go to Services. Add: Service name, description (1–2 sentences), and price range (e.g., “$8–$10 per unit”).

What services to list: Your top 5–8 treatments. Example: Botox, Fillers, Laser Hair Removal, Chemical Peels, Microneedling, Facials, Skin Tightening, PRP.

Pricing: Use a range if pricing varies by client. “Botox: $150–$350” is better than “Call for pricing.” Showing pricing increases click-through rate by 20–30%. Hidden pricing makes people assume you’re expensive and they leave.

Descriptions: Keep short (1–2 sentences). Example: “Botox is a quick, injectable procedure that reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Results appear in 7–10 days and last 3 months.”

Step 5: Optimize your business description (keyword-rich, benefit-led)

Your business description appears under your business name on Google Maps and search. Make it count.

What to include: (1) What you do (medical spa, aesthetic treatments), (2) Key services (Botox, fillers, laser), (3) Main benefit (natural results, no downtime), (4) Location or service area (serves Denver metro). Keep it 2–3 sentences, under 500 characters.

Example: “Medical spa specializing in Botox, fillers, and laser treatments. We deliver natural results with zero downtime. Serving Denver and surrounding areas since 2020.”

Keyword inclusion: Include 2–3 relevant keywords naturally (Botox, fillers, medical spa, [city name]). Don’t stuff keywords (“Botox Botox Botox fillers”). Google can tell.

Step 6: Encourage and respond to reviews

Reviews are 20% of Google ranking and 60% of click decisions. More reviews + higher rating = higher ranking + higher booking rate.

How to get reviews: After each appointment, send an email: “Loved your experience? Please review us on Google” + direct link to your review request. Include a small incentive (not a discount, but something like “leave a review and we’ll send you a free lip gloss at your next appointment” or “review us and get added to our monthly raffle”). Target: 1 review per week (= 50+ per year).

How to respond to reviews: Every review gets a response. Positive reviews: “Thank you! We loved seeing you.” Negative reviews: “We’re sorry you had a poor experience. Please reach out and let us know how we can make it right. We value your feedback.” Responding to negative reviews publicly shows future customers that you care.

Review timing: Ask for reviews 24 hours after appointment (while the experience is fresh and before they forget you).

Step 7: Add posts and Q&A (monthly updates)

Google Posts: You can write short posts (like social media) that appear on your GBP. Useful for: announcing new treatments, special offers, seasonal promotions. Post 1–2 per month. Posts disappear after 7 days, so they’re good for time-sensitive offers.

Q&A section: Google shows customers’ questions about your business. Answer all questions accurately. Example questions: “What are your hours?” “Do you accept insurance?” “What’s the cost of Botox?” Answering Q&A signals engagement to Google and helps future customers.

Benchmarks: What good GBP performance looks like

  • Completeness: All fields filled (100%), 15+ photos (yes), services with pricing (yes) = fully optimized. Google ranks fully optimized profiles 2–3x higher.
  • Review rating: 4.5+ stars is industry standard for medspas. Below 4.0 = low trust, lower click-through rate.
  • Review count: 50+ reviews = competitive credibility. 100+ reviews = you’re dominating local search. 20 reviews or less = your competitors are beating you.
  • Call-through rate: Optimized profiles get 5–10 calls per day (depending on market size). Neglected profiles get 1–2 calls per day.
  • Website clicks: Optimized profiles get 30–50 website clicks per day from Google Maps/search. Neglected profiles get 5–10.

Case study: From 8 local calls per month to 47 local calls per month

Nathan owns a medspa in Austin. His GBP was bare-bones: 2 photos, no services listed, no pricing, no description, no reviews. He was getting 8 local calls per month.

We optimized:

  • Added 18 high-quality photos (before/afters, facility, team)
  • Added 8 services with pricing
  • Rewrote description (keyword-rich, benefit-led)
  • Implemented review generation system (post-appointment emails)
  • Responded to all existing and new reviews

Results after 6 months:

  • Photos: 2 → 25
  • Review count: 8 → 67
  • Review rating: 3.9 stars → 4.8 stars
  • Local calls per month: 8 → 47 (488% increase)
  • Revenue from Google Maps leads: $0 (mostly organic word-of-mouth before) → $11,000/month

What to avoid in Google Business Profile

  • Don’t use keywords in your business name (Google penalizes it and it looks spammy)
  • Don’t use a phone number that’s not yours (scammers do this; Google will suspend profile)
  • Don’t add fake photos (Google catches this, profile gets suspended)
  • Don’t ignore negative reviews (respond professionally; Google gives you a voice)
  • Don’t add spam posts (posts should be about your business, not random content)
